Vipers Suffer Continental Heartbreak as Kitara Keep Uganda’s Flag Flying
Uganda’s continental football campaign delivered contrasting emotions, with Vipers SC suffering a painful Champions League exit despite remaining unbeaten, while Kitara FC marched on in the CAF Confederation Cup.
For Vipers SC, the story could not have ended more painfully.
After a 1–1 draw in the first leg, the Venoms needed a positive result away to FC Nouadhibou in Mauritania. They produced a disciplined performance, keeping a clean sheet and fighting to a 0–0 draw.
But with the aggregate score locked at 1–1, Vipers were eliminated on the away-goals rule.
The result means Vipers leave the CAF Champions League without losing a single match across the two legs — a bitter pill to swallow for a side that will feel they did enough to remain in the competition.
It is a particularly frustrating exit because there was little between the two teams, with the fine margins ultimately deciding Vipers’ continental fate.
Kitara Keep Uganda’s Flag Flying
While Vipers’ campaign came to an end, Kitara FC ensured Uganda will still have representation on the continental stage.
The Hoima-based side booked their place in the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup with a convincing 2–0 victory over Mogadishu City, completing a 4–1 aggregate win.
The Royals were consistent across both legs and deservedly advanced, giving Ugandan football something to celebrate amid Vipers’ disappointment.
Their reward is a huge test: Egyptian giants Al Ahly now stand in their path.
For Kitara, the challenge could hardly be bigger, but so is the opportunity. Facing one of Africa’s most decorated clubs will put the Royals firmly in the continental spotlight and give them a chance to measure themselves against elite opposition.
Two Results, One Ugandan Story
The contrasting fortunes of Vipers and Kitara tell the story of Uganda’s continental campaign in two very different ways.
Vipers will be left wondering what might have been after bowing out without suffering defeat, while Kitara can now dream of making an even deeper run in the Confederation Cup.
One Ugandan club is out. Another is moving forward.
Vipers must now regroup and turn their attention back to the domestic season, while Kitara prepare for the enormous challenge of Al Ahly.
Uganda’s continental journey continues - but for the Venoms, the heartbreak is only just beginning to sink in.
