The third edition of the Longe Homecoming Golf Tournament is set to take place on 9 October 2026, Uganda’s Independence Day, at the Marylouise Simkins Memorial Golf Club in Namulonge.
The tournament will bring together old boys and old girls of Namulonge to celebrate the heritage and history of the golf club while strengthening the bonds among its former members.
Established in the 1960s, the course is a nine-hole golf course located on government research farm land in Namulonge, and many golfers have been produced from this course.
According to Herbert Kamuntu, Chairman of the Marylouise Simkins Memorial Golf Club, the tournament is organized to attract the club’s old boys and old girls as a way of celebrating the institution’s heritage.
“This tournament is organized to attract the old boys and old girls of Marylouise Simkins Memorial Golf Club to celebrate the heritage of the Namulonge Golf Club. It is also an opportunity to update members on how far the club has come in terms of development, as well as our plans to expand the golf course from nine holes to 18 holes,” said Kamuntu.
Members attending the homecoming will receive updates on the club’s development plans, including the proposed expansion of the golf course from its current nine holes to 18 holes, Kamuntu added.
Exciting Hole-in-One Prizes
During the launch of the third edition of the Longe Homecoming Golf Tournament, special packages for the hole-in-one prizes were also unveiled, with sponsorship support from CFAO Mobility and AfriSafe.
Head of Business Development at AfriSafe Insurance Brokers, Arnold Baguma, said the company’s involvement is aimed at supporting the event while helping golfers manage risks.
“As an insurance company, we are here to manage risk, and what excites us most is the hole-in-one prize. Our relationship and partnership with the club is based on the fact that the chairman is a trusted person in the community, and we are committed to being part of this event and future events,” Baguma said.
He added that the company hopes a golfer will claim the hole-in-one prize, making the tournament even more exciting for participants.
While launching the 2026 edition, Howard Wodomal, the Commercial Manager at CFAO Mobility Uganda, said the company chose to partner with the homecoming tournament as part of its efforts to create memorable experiences for participants through hole-in-one prizes.
“We want to continue creating experiences around this homecoming event. We partnered with AfriSafe and brought the Suzuki ACROSS Hybrid, which is in line with our vision of supporting environmentally friendly solutions,” he said.
He added that the company has also introduced a Yamaha premium motorcycle for the hole-in-one winner and expressed optimism about a long-term partnership with the tournament.
The Longe Homecoming Golf Tournament 2026 is expected to attract golfers who have developed their golfing skills at Namulonge, as well as other amateur golfers from different clubs across Uganda, on 9 October. The Namulonge community is also expected to join the celebrations as they come together to celebrate the club’s heritage on Uganda’s Independence Day.
