A total of 108 golfers have teed off at the 2026 Pearl of Africa (POA) Golf Series at Entebbe Golf Club, in a Pro-Am event that has attracted a strong field of professionals and amateurs from across Africa.
Uganda is represented by 64 golfers, accounting for 59.3 percent of the field, while 44 foreign players, or 40.7 percent, are taking part in the tournament.
The international field includes 18 golfers from South Africa, 10 from Kenya, seven from Nigeria, three from Zimbabwe, and one each from Tanzania and Malawi.
Uganda's notable names in the field include Ronald Otire, Ronald Rugumayo, Abby Bagalana and Michael Tumusiime, among others.
The opening day's draws have brought together professionals and amateurs, adding to the competitive nature of the tournament and providing local players with an opportunity to test themselves against golfers from across the continent.
The Pearl of Africa Golf Series is a relatively new Ugandan golf series, established to provide a regular competitive platform for professional and elite amateur golfers while also promoting Uganda as a golf and tourism destination.
The inaugural tournament was held in February 2025 at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala. Since then, the series has expanded its professional profile, including through its association with the Sunshine Development Tour.
The 2026 edition at Entebbe marks another significant step in that growth. The tournament has Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) recognition, allowing eligible professional players to earn world-ranking points from their performances.
The development gives the Entebbe event significance beyond Uganda, creating an international platform for golfers looking to strengthen their professional careers and rankings.
In just about 18 months since its launch, the Pearl of Africa Golf Series has evolved from a new Ugandan golf initiative into an internationally recognised professional event, further raising Uganda's profile on the African golfing scene.
With 108 players from seven countries competing at Entebbe, the 2026 edition is shaping up as one of the most significant events yet in the development of professional golf in Uganda.
