Uganda’s Ronald Rugumayo has taken charge of the Pearl of Africa Golf Series, firing a superb seven-under 64 to open a three-shot lead going into the final day at Entebbe Golf Club.
Rugumayo, representing Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa, followed his opening-round 67 with another commanding display to move to 11-under-par after 36 holes.
The Ugandan produced a near-flawless second round, helping him surge clear of the chasing pack as the tournament enters its decisive stage.
«“I had to change my playing strategy today, and it worked well for me,” Rugumayo said after his round.»
Across the opening two rounds, Rugumayo has combined 11 birdies and two eagles, with just four bogeys, underlining the consistency behind his impressive run.
Nigeria’s Godwin Okoko is his closest challenger on eight-under-par after rounds of 66 and 68.
Kenya’s Greg Snow and South Africa’s Slade Pickering are tied for third on six-under, while Tanzania’s Nuru Mollel, England’s Matt Millar and Uganda’s Willy Kitata Deus are all on five-under.
Kitata, playing on home turf for Entebbe Golf Club, opened with a five-under 66 before carding a level-par second round.
With 32 players making the cut, the battle now shifts to the final day, with Rugumayo holding a valuable three-shot cushion.
“I’m looking forward to tomorrow. I’ll do my best to win it at home,” he added.
For Rugumayo, the challenge is clear: protect his lead and finish the historic tournament on top
