KAMPALA, UGANDA
Legendary female golfer Flavia Namakula is optimistic that Uganda’s selected girls will deliver a strong performance and lead the country to a top finish at the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) in Abuja, Nigeria.
Namakula, who will coach Team Uganda at the continental women’s amateur golf championship scheduled for November 2–7, says the team is ready to represent the Pearl of Africa after a period of training and preparations at Uganda Golf Club.
Uganda’s three-player team comprises captain Judith Komugisha, Keisha Kagoro and Harsshitha Loganathan, the youngest member of the squad.
“We have been training well and have been in camp for one week. I have been with these players for a long time, and this week of training has been about focus and management. The team is ready to represent Uganda in Abuja, Nigeria,” Namakula said.
The experienced golfer added that she has maintained contact with Kagoro’s coach in South Africa, where the player usually competes, to support the team’s preparations.
“Our goal is to ensure we finish in the top three or even win the trophy,” she added.
The team was officially flagged off by National Council of Sports (NCS) Assistant General Secretary in charge of Technical matters, Milton Chebet, at the council’s headquarters in Lugogo, Kampala.
Chebet reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sports development, describing sports as a powerful tool for national development. He commended the team for setting an ambitious target and pledged continued support for the growth of golf in Uganda.
He also encouraged the players to compete with confidence, discipline and high standards, urging them to remain focused, support one another and believe in their abilities.
Uganda will face opposition from 18 other African nations, including South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Ghana and Zimbabwe, at the biennial championship.
The tournament, which brings together women’s amateur golf teams from across Africa, offers Uganda an opportunity to test its players against some of the continent’s established golfing nations.
With Namakula’s experience, Komugisha’s leadership and the determination of the young squad, Uganda will be hoping to translate its preparations into a memorable performance in Abuja.
Team Uganda is targeting a top-three finish and will be aiming for nothing less than a chance to lift the trophy.
